20TH C. CHIANG SAEN BUDDHA

This Lanna (Northern Thai) buddha actually represents an amalgam of the Chiang Saen and Sukhothai styles.  The head and facial features are more characteristic Chiang Saen, but the body and base are much more classically Sukhothai.  It has a wonderful dark green patina that is slightly deeper and more saturated than the picture.  There is a buddha almost identical in form to this in the Metropolitan Museum.  It stands 15 inches high.  There are slight losses to the base; otherwise the condition is excellent.  If he were older, he would be five times the price.
